Lenovo and Qualcomm tease 5G laptop with 7 nm Snapdragon processor

Lenovo and Qualcomm announced the upcoming announcement of the first laptop with a mobile 5G-modem Snapdragon X55 and a Snapdragon 8cx chipset introduced in December The presentation of the novelty will take place at Computex 2019 - it will be held from May 28 to June 1.

Manufacturers call the future laptop "premium" solution, but do not disclose details about its characteristics. In addition, the cost of the device remains unknown, although Chinese sources already report a price tag of $ 1,000 or more.

Snapdragon 8cx consists of eight 64-bit Kryo cores and a video accelerator Adreno 680, and also has Wi-Fi modules 802.11ad, 802.11ac Wave 2, 802.11a / b / g and 802.11n, Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC. Devices based on the 7-nm chipset can have displays with a resolution of up to 4K, and also support image output to two external 4K screens. The platform allows the use of LPDDR4x-2133 RAM, NVMe SSD and UFS 3.0 flash drives, cameras with a resolution of up to 32 million pixels (or dual cameras with a resolution of up to 16 million pixels), as well as a USB 3.1 Type-C interface.

You can also recall the capabilities of the X55 5G modem: within the framework of the MWC 2019, Qualcomm representatives showed that the peak download speed on the device in 4G networks reaches 2.5 Gbit / s, and in 5G - up to 7 Gbit / s. For example, the limits of the Snapdragon X50 modem, common among smartphones, do not exceed 4.5 Gb / s over a 5G network.
