Huawei has come up with a name for its OS.


It is no secret that Huawei, which is now experiencing tense times due to pressure from the US, is developing its own operating system, which it can use instead of Android and Windows . What we did not know for sure is its name, but it seems that this mystery is revealed.

The Android Headlines website drew attention to patent applications filed by Huawei on May 24 with the European Union’s Intellectual Property Office. They mention several possible variations of the name of the operating system:
  • Huawei Ark OS
  • Huawei ark
  • Ark
  • Ark os
Almost nothing is known about the capabilities of this operating system; we only know that it is based on the open source code of Android and is compatible with Android applications. In addition, recently there was information that instead of the Play Market it will use a third-party store - Aptoide.

Inside Huawei, other code names are used - HongMeng OS and Project Z. Of course, there is no guarantee that Huawei uses the name Ark for its OS, just as there is no 100 percent certainty that this operating system will ever be released at all. It is not excluded that the US authorities will make concessions and will not prohibit Huawei from installing Android and Windows.

Huawei called the release date of the OS to replace Android and Windows

The App Gallery app store will be available on the Huawei operating system. The company has been attracting developers to it since 2018 in exchange for helping to promote it, including in the Chinese market. This store will replace the Google Play Store and Microsoft Store. It is already preinstalled on some models of Huawei and Honor smartphones, although by default they use the Play Store.

ARM immediately cancel partnership with Huawei due to US sanctions


The BBC reports that the British chip developer ARM has informed staff about the suspension of its partnership with Huawei in order to comply with US trade sanctions.

The Honor 20 uses a Kirin 980 processor with a separate chip for operations that are processed by artificial intelligence, a 6.26-inch screen with a resolution of 2340 × 1080 pixels and a graphics density of 412 dpi, 6 GB of RAM and a 128-gigabyte drive. The battery capacity is 3750 mAh, charging via USB Type-C from a 22.5-watt adapter is supported, and up to 50% of the battery can be powered in just half an hour.

 The ratio of the useful area of ​​the matrix to the front of the smartphone is 91.6%. The cutout for the front camera is significantly reduced compared to the Honor 10, it is now round, and its diameter is only 4.5 mm. The body is metallic, with gradient coloring and glass coating, which enhances the effect of color transfusion. A fingerprint scanner is built into the power button. According to Huawei, it works much faster than scanners hiding in glass. 

The main pride of Honor 20 is a high-quality photo and video shooting. The main camera uses four sensors:
  • 48 megapixel Sony IMX 586, aperture f / 1.8, pixel size 1.6 μm, support for optical stabilization, night mode
  • 16 Mp, aperture f / 2.2, wide-angle lens with a coverage of 117 degrees
  • 2 Mp, f / 2.4 aperture, for bokeh effect
  • 2 Mp, f / 2.4 aperture, for macro photography

To correct photos taken in the night mode, data from the gyroscope and accelerometer is used, and the jitter arising from the fact that the smartphone is in the hands, is compensated by the optical stabilization system. In this mode, ten frames, made with fast shutter speed and a deep dynamic range, are glued together into the resulting high quality image. Image processing is performed using artificial intelligence technology. A 32-megapixel front-facing camera with an f / 2.0 aperture and support for capturing 3D self-portraits.

 Honor 20 uses a large set of wireless communication modules: 2G, 3G, 4G, Wi-Fi (2.4 and 5 GHz), Bluetooth 5.0. GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo and QZSS technologies are used for navigation. 

Honor 20 also provides ample opportunities for gamers. GPU Turbo 3.0 technology speeds up the processor and video chip when launching high-end games like PUBG Mobile, Vainglory, Arena of Valor and NBA 2k18. Thanks to the support of Virtual 9.1 Surround Sound, the sound in the headphones is voluminous, deep and enveloping. The technology of graphene sheets is used to cool the processor and other components. Huawei says that such material removes heat 1.5 times more efficiently than copper.

 The Honor 20 Pro has more attractive features. This smartphone has more memory (8/256 GB), a stronger battery (4000 mAh), and in the camera instead of the sensor for the side 8-megapixel telephony with 3x optical zoom, 5x hybrid and 30x digital is used. 

Android 9.0 Pie with Magic UI 2.1 shell and several proprietary applications is used as an operating system in smartphones. The colors of Honor 20 are black, blue and rainbow, and the Honor 20 Pro is available in blue, green, gray and black. 

     Honor 20 will cost 499 euros in Europe (about 36 thousand rubles), and Honor 20 Pro - 599 euros (about 43 thousand rubles). Date of commencement of sales is still unknown.

The CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group Richard Yu shared the company's plans regarding the release of its own operating system. It will be ready by the autumn of 2019 and will be able to work on smartphones, tablets, computers, in on-board computers of cars and on wearable electronics. 

The Huawei operating system is called indepenOS. It is possible that closer to the release date, the company will come up with something more melodic and rename it, for example, KirinOS or HonorOS. It is known that indepenOS is compatible with Android applications, however, developers will have to recompile their projects in order to port them to this OS. The situation was similar with Tizen, but, unlike Samsung, Huawei wants to create a complete analog of Android, and not a simplified platform for low-cost devices.

The conflict between the US government and Huawei is currently on fire . The Trump administration has banned local companies, including Google, from collaborating with Huawei. After three months, the Chinese manufacturer will no longer be able to purchase components for its devices in the US, and will also lose its license to install Android with Google’s built-in services.

The history of the struggle of the United States against Huawei is gaining momentum. We previously reported that Google has suspended cooperation with the company and revoked the license for Android under the order of Donald Trump. Today, these events received a new plot twist. 

The US Department of Commerce delayed the presidential order for 90 days, starting today, with some amendments. According to information from Reuters, during this period, Huawei will be able to acquire American-made components to maintain the network infrastructure and update software for devices already released. Despite this, a ban remains in place for new products.

Thus, the revocation of the Android license has been postponed for 90 days, which means that Huawei can certify OS updates on Google for its devices. It is not yet known whether this period will be enough to provide certificates for updates on Android Q. We assume that the company will make every effort to do so. 

The postponement for Huawei will expire on August 19, perhaps by this time the United States and China will adjust the situation, coming to mutually beneficial agreements.

According to a Reuters source, Google has suspended cooperation with Huawei, under which it transferred hardware and software developments, including the Android operating system. The decision followed the appearance of a Chinese company in the “black list” of the US Department of Commerce. 

The agency claims that since the termination of cooperation Huawei smartphones will no longer receive Android updates, and new devices will not have access to Google services, including the Google Play app store, Gmail, YouTube mail and others. Huawei will have access to the open version of Android, but the company will lose technical support from Google.

The information has already been confirmed by Google. It is also known that Huawei lawyers in China are currently studying the situation, but the company refuses any comments on this matter. 



In Thursday, May 16, US Department of Commerce has made  Huawei and 70 related companies in the black list ", contrary to the national security activities of States" for. The decision obliges American manufacturers who sell Huawei any equipment or technology to obtain a special license from the US authorities for any cooperation. 

In 2016, the US authorities  suspected that Huawei was spying on users and transmitting the collected data to the Chinese government. In August 2018, Donald Trump  signed a decree that introduces a state of emergency in the country to protect information technologies from external threats, in particular, industrial espionage. The decree allowed the US Department of Commerce to block transactions involving foreign communications companies if they pose a threat to the country's security. 

In March 2019, Huawei Executive Director Richard Yu said that Huawei already has its own operating systems for smartphones and computers in case of banning Android and Windows. At the same time, the company notes that they do not want to abandon other people's operating systems, and would prefer Google and Microsoft ecosystems.
